Roadmap
What might come next for the project.
Everything listed here is a possibility, in no particular order. I work on this outside my full-time job, so timelines aren't published. If something here would be useful to you, or you have a suggestion, let me know.
Project news and updates are posted on the blog.
Website
- Fully support Te Reo Māori throughout the website
- Scheme data — surface scheme-level information, including which scheme serves an area and the restriction stages within it
Notifications & automation
- Subscribe to alerts when restrictions change for any area
- Webhooks for real-time notifications
- Integration with platforms like Home Assistant
API & Data
- Versioning of water restriction stage details. This would mean that the detail of the restrictions at that point in time are captured additional to the severity
- Endpoints to enhance automation integrations (e.g. "can I water my garden today?")
- MCP server - allow AI assistants to query water restrictions on your behalf
Completed
- ✅ South Island / Te Waipounamu coverage
- ✅ Alternative view modes - map view and list view both available
- ✅ Change detection with AI - restriction changes can now be automatically detected and applied
- ✅ Timeline support - see how restrictions have changed over time, and when the next change is expected
- ✅ North Island / Te Ika-a-Māui coverage
- ✅ Return stage descriptions in Markdown format, allowing easier rendering in different applications
