What might come next for the project.
Everything listed under the sections below is a possibility, in no particular order. I work on this outside my full-time job, so timelines aren't published. If something here would be useful to you, or you have a suggestion, let me know.
Ideas that have been considered and set aside are recorded under Not planned. Project news and updates are posted on the blog.
Website
- Fully support Te Reo Māori throughout the website
- Scheme data: surface scheme-level information, including which scheme serves an area and the restriction stages within it
Notifications & automation
- Subscribe to alerts when restrictions change for any area
- Webhooks for real-time notifications
- Integration with platforms like Home Assistant
API & Data
- Endpoints to enhance automation integrations (e.g. "can I water my garden today?")
- MCP server - allow AI assistants to query water restrictions on your behalf
Not planned
Some ideas have been considered and deliberately set aside.
- Historical record of water restrictions. Keeping a history of past restrictions, including the detail of each past restriction as it was when it was in effect. Retaining and versioning the data would add significant complexity. Without a demonstrated need for this, it was decided to focus the platform deliberately on current and upcoming restrictions for now.
