Extensive water restriction coverage across New Zealand

514 areas across Aotearoa New Zealand are now covered, wrapping up the initial push to establish nationwide water restriction coverage.

Joe Butler

The South Island / Te Waipounamu now has broad coverage, bringing the total number of supported areas across Aotearoa New Zealand to 514.

Of those, 51 are marked as untracked – areas I've explicitly added to acknowledge they exist, but where reliable restriction information isn't currently available. They appear greyed out on the map, with their status labelled as untracked both on the site and in the API.

This wraps up the major initial push to get coverage across the country. Going forward, I'll be adding and refining areas ad hoc and based on feedback, rather than working through districts systematically. Coverage will also continue to evolve over time as I review and improve the data.
